Staying mindful is key to overcoming your past traumas. It is what keeps you present and reminds you of all the wonderful things you are yet to have in your life. It is also a reminder that your present doesn’t always have to be shaped by your past. However, staying mindful is not just about meditation and breathing techniques. It has to do with your everyday routine and how engaged you are with it.
The first advice we got from different therapists and life coaches specialized in treating PTSD is to practice self-care. Give yourself the attention and kindness you need. This will help you establish a good relationship with your body and send positive messages about it to your mind, which will help elevate your sense of self and boost your confidence. It is as if you are supplying yourself with the consideration you need from others. There is also that sense of accomplishment you get when you pamper yourself. As well as the sense of compensation you get when you make room for yourself in your day.
Schedule a hair day, especially if you are fasting. Your hair needs the extra attention to compensate for the lack of hydration and nourishment. We advise you to prepare a warm bubble bath with your favorite scented shower gel, dim the lights, and give yourself a calming hour as the masks in your hair work their magic.
